With being a kid from Akron, Ohio Lebron James knows the struggle that comes with his community. Coming from an inner city single parent home, he had the vision to change the norm with education. Lebron James’s “I Promise School” gives youth the opportunity to not only get an education but get a strong, healthy, and structured environment .
With the installment of the I Promise School shows that Lebron James is more than an athlete. He took on the role to be a leader and a force for his community that would change the demographic and norms. The goal of the school is to effect not just the students but every individual who comes through the doors.
To begin with the school started with only started with 240 students and Lebron had the vision to effect each house hold of every student. The school offers job placement for every parent of each student that attends the school. There is stress support for students who have economic struggles in their households. Researching the I Promise School the thing that stuck out thbge most is that every student who attends the school will have free tuition to the University of Akron.
Changing a community child by child is the way Lebron and the I Promise School is brining a change to not only the community of Akron, but the state of Ohio. He strongly believes children are the future and is guaranteeing their success step by step with the school. The point is to given children a sense of hope and show them there is a way out, and they can make it. With the ability for Lebron to relate to the students of their upbringing he knows the sky is the limit for the students all they need is a push and for someone to believe in them.
I feel Lebron is doing a great service to his hometown of Akron. For him to use his platform to do something of this magnitude shows the type of human being he is. Another realization I made is that the school will give children pride and hope in where they come from and they will feel if he did it so can we. Lebron is making it his purpose to change the lives of younger generations and with this project the students of the I Promise School will become our future leaders.
